Hello there ...
well .. Friday again ... where do the days go ... at least we had some sunshine today ... it was in fact a lovely day ...
splendid .. super.
Lets hope its a turning point and we have more of them ..
it does a girl good ...
to have a bit of sunshine.
So last night I had that 'sewing itch' ... you know
.. that 'making creating' thingy...
I had found a lovely bit of hand embroidery ...it was part of what once was a set of chair back covers or Antimacassars as they were called.
The piece I had was for a settee .. a double width with two sprays of lovely wild/meadow flowers on it.
What to do with it ... how best to display the lovely needlework?
Well ... what about a couple of cushions..
Just simple style cushion covers .. envelope backs ... the pads easily removed for laundering ...
Pretty ... functional and the lovely work of the unknown needlewoman can live on .... and bring sweetness to someone elses home for a little longer.
And I do so enjoy having a sew!
On to more practicle things ...and frugal ... I do so know how you love a Thrifty Snippet!
Whats for tea ... Ah ha ...
Same as yesterday ... veggie/potato -y/ cabbage-y curry ...with chick peas ..! Oh my goodness!
An explosive combination for Hubby P ... good job we were working outside today ... and there was a bit of a stiff breeze ...the less said the better.
But the curry ... lots left to eat up .. in a Thrifty fashion...
So I found a chicken breast in the freezer ... I cut it into strips .. to share it between us ... and thought to coated it in some kind of crumb.
I was a bit thin on the old crumb front till I discovered the cracker tin ... do you like my little old Jacobs cracker tin ...nice garden birds on it ....
Anyway I bashed up some crackers and added a bit of flour ...and odd/old crust of bread ....
...and the first spices that came to hand... paprika cumin ...and a touch of ginger I think.
Fried up in a knob of butter...
They went a treat with the curry and a blob of homemade apple jelly.
And as Hubby P said ....'that was rather good'!
So .. what have you been up to ...enjoying the sunshine?

I love this sort of creative cooking, surprising what you can rustle up with what you have to hand.I tend to work a lot like that in the kitchen too.
ReplyDeleteLove the cushions :)
Lovely cushions!
ReplyDeleteYour chicken surprise dinner is a great way to use up oddments of meat. I might try this coating idea on a little minced pork I have lurking in the fridge. Some smallish burgers/patties might work well, served with a nice green salad and a little pearl barley risotto.
Apparently smashed up rice crispies are another great coating for chicken, just dip in mayo first! Your cushions are lovely Victoria, oooh, I love a bit of Granny Chic!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.

Mmmmm you're chicken dish sounds and looks rather yummy. The cushions are fabulous. I've been collecting small embroidered pieces in order to make some sort of patchwork cushion affair from them! X
ReplyDeleteLove the cushions - a brilliant way to show off the embroidery.Your tea looks good too!
ReplyDeleteI spotted your tin the background which brought back memories for me. My Gran had one exactly like it, and I'm sure she kept cream crackers in it.
ReplyDeleteLove the cushions btw.
Brilliant idea for re-using beautiful embroidery. I often see little pieces but don't buy them as I have no use for their original intended purpose, yet so many hours of patient craft and love have gone into these. I will now be snapping them up! Many many thanks for the idea, keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteYes i had the washing on the line yesterday ! loving the cushions, and improv recipes, best way.
ReplyDeletethat was a lovely creative meal! Love the pillow covers! Laughed at the bit about the explosive meal!
ReplyDeleteHmm, it looks 'rather good' as well. I've got an old cracker tin for our crackers. I was going to throw it away years ago but the rest of the family didn't allow it as it had grown up with us all. The cushions are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove from Mum

Found some pieces of embroidery when clearing out the linen shelves the other day. I know what I'm going to do with them now! Thanks for the inspiration

The cushions look so pretty. A lovely way to recycle someone`s embroidery from long ago.
ReplyDeleteWe have had two days of sunshine here, after what seems like weeks of grey skies and rain. A good opportunity to catch up with outside jobs and a chance for a walk on the beach!
The cushions are very pretty. I have the same tin - its a lovely one
ReplyDeleteI love your cushions, so pretty. That chicken sounds pretty good too!
ReplyDeleteLots of mud here...I mop the floor constantly when the dogs come in, which is happening a lot as I am house breaking a corgi puppy!
ReplyDeleteLove your sewing projects..I constantly bring old linens home but need to do something with them..want to make curtains from some of them.
