A Grand Day ... Playing Out In The Sunshine....

Hello there ... hope you've all had a nice time ...

I'm sure Hubby P and I have eaten far too much ....

I've had such a grand day playing out in the sunshine ....
yes ..
 at last ...
after all that awful rain .. hail ... and dreadful wind...
we have had some lovely sunshine.

 Puddycat made the most of it and sunned herself on the windowsill.

 It was so mild I didn't even wear a coat ...

The Christmas wreath took a bashing in the wind ... it looks very sorry for itself ...

 And there were plastic bags scattered all over the garden and in the hedges ... the wind must have got into someones dustbin ...
I had a good old tidy up...

Not a pretty sight .. a wild haired ...dumpy... middle aged woman...  scrabbling around in the hedge ... but hey ho...

at one time maybe .. they'd have 'ducked' me as a witch!

 The windows were filthy ... all that wind ...
I'm sure it had blown half the sand from the beach ...
 6 miles away ...
 and left a thick film over the windows.

I gave them a good wash over ... let the sunshine in.

 Looking around the garden ... lots going on ... in a quiet way.

How exciting to see all these little treasures peeping through...

Oh .... for an early spring!

 Back to work for Hubby P .... we may not be trading for a few days ... but we will need something to trade with.

There's always something to repair ... re fashion ... re purpose ... something to give a new life to.

 These little beauties arrived in the back of the van a few days before Christmas ...
 lovely old Singer sewing machine bases ...
they make lovely little tables ....
so I think that was today's project ...

Would you like to see the finished tables before we sell them on?
I never really know what interests you dear bloggy readers ..
I'd hate to think I just go on about work.

After a nice afternoon in the garden ....
a spot of soup making ...
Hubby P fancies a drop of Lentil and Bacon soup ...

Just the job as the sun goes down .. and that chilly dampness creeps in ...
time to bank up the fire .. and toast our toes.

~~~~
Just thinking ... what is it you do like to read about ?
Sometimes I feel I don't lead a wildly exciting life ...
don't travel much ...
no fancy restaurants ...
not particularly knowledgeable on any subject ...
I just try to give you a snippet of a quiet life on Anglesey.
Take care x
  4. I am with the others, I love to see before and after photos and read about everyday things, I opt for a quiet life any day. I spent 12 years as a Pub Landlady and had a busy food trade, that was enough for me and I much prefer to amble round the village with Ben and working (or not) in the garden. On my next trip to Wales I hope to come and visit your stall, I have never been to Anglesey so it will be a big treat.
  7. Sounds like a perfect day to me Victoria! You've inspired me to clean my windows and sort the garden out ... The sun's shining and we've just had the cobwebs blown away with a bracing walk along the coastline, so am ready for action now ... Might just have t up a pan of soup on first though ....
    Love Claire
    PS: I love the Singer treadle bases, and look forward to seeing the tables xxx
  8. You and your husband have the same outlook on life as my husband and I do, so I love hearing about what you've been restoring (we do similarly!) Like you, we probably live much as our grandparents did, truth be told. I love hearing about your garden too, and the cottage improvements. Just keep on sharing what you do - suits me!
    My daughter and husband are at the Fleamarket today - it is bitterly cold and I feel guilty because I opted to stay home, but I am still struggling with the ongoing chest infection, so it would have been stupid to stand for 8 hours in the frost (and inside is colder than outside).
    Looking forward to seeing the sewing machine tables in due course.
    1. Hope you are feeling a bit better .. I suffer with my chest too ... any cold goes straight to my chest. I bet it was brass monkey weather at the flea market ... funny how it can be colder inside than out ... I find it creeps up my legs from the concrete floor.
  9. P.S. I can say snap on those 3 tins behind your chopping board - though the one with the rose on has bitten the dust (it was mum's peg tin in the end . . .)
  12. I've got an old sewing machine base, it's in the garden as a table but, the top which is 4 planks of wood with 2 shorter bits nailed on has seen better days! Shall be looking out for a gate or similar to give it a new top.
    I've been reading and re-reading a series of 5 books, The Stonewylde series, which you may or may not enjoy. They are by the author, Kit Berry.
    Yes, would love to see the tables in their finished state, might help me decide how to re-juvenate mine!
    the wreath still looks good to me!
    Enjoy your soup!
  15. Hi Victoria, ive been reading your blog for a few years and love reading about your wonderfully simple lifestyle. I would love to live in the country like you but we live in Nottingham England, only 1 mile from the city centre but like you live very frugally and the simple things in life, such as family ( a very large one) with whom we play a very big part. I love seeing photos of your cottage garden and of what you buy and restore to sell on or keep when you have fallen love with it, but most of all I love your style of cooking, your recipes and how you can cook something out of very little. You add a bit of sunshine to my days when you blog so please never stop blogging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very kind regards.
  16. Hi Victoria your blog is wonderful as are you, it is my favourite blog, we are trying to change our lives to a more simple life and doing a bit of carbooting, auctions etc, and we are learning to live a more thrifty life, I have learnt over the years it is not about having lots of money its how you use it, last year we never had any money at the end of the month, but since I have started cooking nearly everthing from scratch and using approved foods, etc, we are now saving nicely, I really enjoy it. We have cut down on the hours we work to and are better off, goodbye consumerism, we are hooking on , carbooting, thrifting and charity shops, freecycle the list goes on and on, sorry I am waffling now, but your blog gives loads of tips and advice, thankyou and happy 2014 to you and your family.
  20. I'd love to see the finished tables - I have a ' spare' Singer treadle base in the garage. You and hubby are living the life that my hubby wants to live if he retires early ( we have our fingers crossed for 60). He has dreams of a van, renovating furniture together, me stitching things to sell etc. to supplement his pension and lump sum until the state pension kicks in ( if we live long enough to get it). I love being able to peek into your simple life which you write about in such a gentle, non-preachy way.
  21. Hi, I live on Anglesey (Llandegfan) and you are on my reading list of blogs ..intending to go over to the carboot at Mona sometime soon..will you have the sewing machine tables there soon? I've always wanted one of those as my Mum had one when I was little and I learned to sew on it. She died earlier this month and seeing your blogpost brought memories flooding back.Hope you survived the gales okay..we have 2 fence panels down and 1 flapping! Could have been worse. xx
  25. Hi, love reading all you write about. I'm from anglesey but currently live overseas. I love the little window on to what is happening at home, whether it's the weather, the garden, any local happenings. I love reading about how you live too - my life here in a very busy place with 5 lovely but busy children is very different than yours but I really enjoy reading and learning really from you. Please keep on blogging! I'd really miss it if you stopped. Happy new year!
