Pretty Finds and Warming Goodness....

Hello there ...

Just thought I would share a little prettiness with you ...
a little bit of vintage loveliness I found in the summer.
Remember Summer?

How is this for a stunning piece of work ... it must have taken hours and hours of stitching ..

 and such beautiful stitching...

A young couple were selling off bits and bobs from their grandparents home ... and this was stuffed in an old bag ... I wish now I had asked more about it .. but at the time they just said they didn't know .. it was just 'stuff' to them.
When I got it home and looked it over I got all excited and planned to repair it ... you can see I went over it and stuck white labels on the worn bits... to get an overall view of the damage. I think it had perhaps been on a bed and the sunlight has weakened the fabric in places.
Anyway that was as far as I had got ... its sat in the bottom of the cupboard ... I have decided (finally today!) ... I really have not the time to devote to it ... so its time to move it on.
Someone ... somewhere will do a great job ..
repair it or turn it into cushions or something lovely ...
lots of talented people out there ...
I've put it on ebay ... its a site that is quite far reaching ... hopefully I will be able to re home it.

Life has been a bit busy ... just trying to make a living at the moment .. everything slows down at this time of year .. we just have to keep ticking over and do what we can to bring in a few pounds...
so busy bee's.

So I have just got around to sorting my A Food order...

Washed all my nice jars and filled them up with the dried stuff ...
store cupboard is nice and full.

Do you like my nice new salt pot ... well its not pot its enamel ware ... I do so love enamel ware...

I found the salt pot at the car boot sale (of course) and its ideal ... just the job to hold my yummy sea salt .... I know too much salt is bad for you ... but I do love it sprinkled on my soup.

I got some of this soya mince (it was cheap) .. I thought I could add it to a little minced beef to help make it go further .. or to lentil dishes etc.
I don't think there is much taste to it ... but its protein and will be useful as a standby and bulk-y uppy stuff.
Anyone used this soya mince?

A bag of this too .. seemed a good idea ... cheap and cheerful.
I thought I could use it a bit like seasoning ..
The other day when the oven was on I put a large casserole dish of dried soup mix (lentils beans peas pearl barley etc) with a bit of onion and some oxo stock in, to slowly cook.
It filled the oven space and gave me a big pot of 'soup base' ..
this a I put into smaller plastic boxes and put in the freezer. I can take one out (defrost it) and add to some leftovers to make a quick soup .... or just add some of this soup mix.
I haven't tried it yet ... but I'm sure it will add a bit of a savoury something to a lot of dishes.

So that's been my week ... more logs to be delivered tomorrow ... nicely stocked up for over the colder weeks.

Take care ... keep warm xx

  1. Good luck with rehoming your quilt. Fingers x'd for you. I have two lovely Welsh wool blankets (well, one's a proper 4-fringe Carthen) to list, so I must get around to that today.

The approved foods stuff looks good. I have the most incredibly fussy (as in childishly fussy, bless him - his only failing!) husband when it comes to food. Even a sprinkling of parsley in a meal has him on high alert and perish the thought of being SEEN to use a Vegetable Oxo. Sigh . . . As a cook, I am wasted on him!!!

  2. Let's hope someone can restore it with sympathy. Ideally with old fabrics. Maybe ask the buyer if they will come back and do a "guest spot" so we can see :-D

  3. I love the quilt, it's something with a story to tell. Your purchases from A. Foods look very wholesome- I love to see a well stocked pantry! I have used the soya protein before. I've used it in cottage pie type dishes, and it does need a flavour added to it. I also find the pieces -which swell up -a bit too big, I thought I would crush them a little next time. They are a little rubbery, but fine mixed with veg and I also put a few lentils.

  4. That bed cover is so lovely, very sad they didn't value it and all the hard work. Glad you did and that someone else will too. Recovering from the storm here, trees all over the place. The power was gone so long that l began worrying about the food in the freezer, thank goodness power came back in time. Hope you both have a lovely weekend, not too busy but with some nice time to relax. All the best, Pam xx

    1. Do hope you are okay .. no damage with the trees down. We are quite sheltered here down our little lane ... very luck from the reports on the news. Going to do a bit of sewing now .. that's relaxation for me .. love to stitch. We've just had a log delivery and stacked them .. so I will snuggle up with the sewing.

  5. I persevered with Soya mince but, it does not sit well with me! I too thought it would be good to make the mince go further but, I have horrendous gas when I eat it! So good luck LOL!

  6. The quilt is lovely, I hope it finds a new home, Humpty has been adopted and it happened so quickly that I had to finish him off while they waited and did not have time to take a photo. I was finishing him off at a friends, we have a sew and tea get together every other week and a family member turned up to drop off presents, there was a little boy who took one look at Humpty and recited the nursery rhyme, I was enchanted and so they left together. I couldn't help but think of Christopher Robin and Pooh. Humpty is happily living in Havant in Hampshire. On a down note, I lost 3 fruit trees in the high wind and my garden appears to have been turned inside out.

  7. Isnt it strange how things turn out .. and 'people' find each other ... obviously the pair belong together.
Sad about your fruit trees ... dont over do it trying to sort out the garden.

  9. You really do find some beautiful bits and pieces amongst the stuff you buy in. I would have ended up with a house full of lovelies if I were in your position I would just want to keep it all myself and I am not ruthless enough to see it as "stock" for the business.
I love my bit of Welsh blanket fabric by the way and will soon be transforming it into several cushions for my living room - a Christmas present to myself :)

  10. Glad you like your bit of welsh blanket ... it is a particularly pretty piece .. I love the colours. Sometimes I think the welsh blankets can be a bit garish .. colour wise ... but the pink is pretty. I have made one or two christmas presents with the scraps.
    Enjoy x

  11. What a lovely example of 'crazy quilting' I have been threatening to make one with all my scraps but where does the time go to?

I too stocked up at AF this week and my basket looked very similar to yours

  12. What gorgeous hand stitching on that quilt, someone worked so hard to make good use of every scrap of fabric, it puts our throwaway society to shame.

Love your salt pot and all your AF bargains. I do like to see a line of jars all full of dried foods.
