Floor Finished .. and Cards Up ...

Hello there ....
just a few pic's of the finished floor .... some of you asked.

We worked like crazy today getting all finished and the furniture back in.

All is peace and calm ... and I've enjoyed a little candlelight.

Hubby P worked his little socks off sealing the slate tiles with linseed oil and then polishing them ... it was a bit smelly (the linseed oil) .. but the smell has gone now.

You can see how the oil brings up all the colours and patterns in the slate.

Whilst we were at it I had a good sort through the bookshelves ... I'm sure they breed .. where do they all come from?
Anyway we have a boxful to go to the car boot .. and all the 'keepers' are neatly stacked (and dusted).

The other day I bought a nice mixed bunch of holly, bay and other greenery ... from some friends at the car boot ...
I made a simple arrangement just to sit on the side.
This is as close as I will get to a Christmas tree ... just a simple bit of greenery... pretty.

In the midst of all this Hubby P kindly lugged all the geodes into the bathroom and gave them a good wash in the shower .... being all tiny crystals they don't half attract and hold the dust ... I've found a shower is the best way to clean them.

I had a nice time playing about with them ... rearranging them.

The flooring looks a bit dark in the photo ..
the dark grey does show off my pink silk rug .... I got this rug the other week .. its a bit used .. a bit loved .. and perhaps a bit faded .. bit like me ....
But I love this rug.

Even the old mule chest got a good polishing ... Hubby P on a mission with the polishing cloth.
He knows I treasure this mule chest ... its been in the family for 60 odd years and has a real tale to tell ...
but that's for another day.

xx

  3. I think I'm in love with your little cottage lol!
What's the sphere or spherical bowl made of with your geodes and what is the red crystal in the pic?
Love your mule chest too and the painted enamel candle holder!
I wonder what happened to the red enamel one my Mum always kept in the pantry in my childhood home? I know her 'hobbing' iron is in my younger brother's garage. so many old things that would be useful in a power cut or like now, in hard times.
I can't remember if I told you that the honesty seeds arrived safely or not?
They did and are in a 'wage packet' envelope, labelled with their name on and who gave them to me. So when I sow them, if I have forgotten who gave them to me I'm reminded and can bless them and the seeds....softy that I am but, I like to do this, it feels good somehow.

    1. Glad your seeds arrived safely. I don't know about the bowl ... the sphere is actually a bowl .. the inside and bottom being glass .. its kinda coated with crystal like/or glass stuff ... but looks very much like amythyst. Again it was just an a table at a ca rboot. I put a tea light in it and it glows.

    1. Curtains were great find .. they are old heavy cotton velvet... keep us all snug and warm. I take them down during summer .. stops the sun from fading them .. and they look too 'heavy' ... I have lacy ones to let in the lovely light.

  8. Gosh, lots of hard work put in at your cottage and the floor (and everything) looks wonderful. We have a giant version of your mule chest down in mum's - big enough to hide a body in!!! Love the shabby-chic rug, and your arrangement of mirrors.

Those geodes are AMAZING. I have only ever seen ones like the giant ones you have in shops in Glastonbury and Avebury. WOW! They must give off tremendous "vibes". I've had to stop going into the Crystal shop at Hay-on-Wye as they have all sorts of crystals in sizes from peanut to huge, but the conflicting - energies - give me an intense headache.

All set for Christmas at your house now then.

  9. Your new floor looks wonderful !! And you remind me I need to do a through sort out of my books too !!
as for your rug- some of my favorite thing are used, worn, threadbare. It just make them more attractive- that patina of time.
Happy Christmas to You & Hubby !!

  11. I WANT that chest... It's beautiful. If you want an 'antique dealer's shine' (I used to be one), rub it with very fine (OO) wire wool before polishing; the result is amazing.

  12. The new slate floor looks wonderful. I had a slate floor in my last house, loved it and miss it! As for books, I Freecylced, bootfaired and charity shopped all mine before I moved here to BG, but kept all my craft and reference books. After almost 18 months, they are still not unpacked, which makes me oh so sad!
